Jim Webb sworn in, swiftly rolls out his first bill

Harry Reid stopped by Jim Webb's swearing in reception and called him a "real American hero," among other things, according to an RTD article:

"He has physical courage. He has got a lot of brains. We look forward to him in the Senate being one of the great senators of all time," Reid, D-Nevada, told cheering Webb supporters in an ornate Senate meeting room.

Webb also told reporters he was able to think things through for himself, and on Hardball last night he referred to Saddam Hussein's hanging as "really a blunder." As we all know, Webb has made it perfectly clear that he has no problem speaking his mind.

Webb wasted no time introducing his first bill either, which would provide veterans of the post-September 11 era equivalent educational benefits to those offered to service members at the end of WW II. A Webb spokesperson, however, said that the bill's cost has not been estimated. No word yet on if or when the bill may come to a vote, either.
