Alas, I'm back in Richmond
Yes, unfortunately, I'm back in Richmond - after spending Thursday, and part of the day Friday in the Arctic Washington, DC - a friend of mine and I headed down to Salem, Virginia to visit his family for the extended weekend. Last night we then proceeded back to the imperial District of Columbia, and from there I promptly headed back down to Richmond. Thus the reason my blog posts have been very few and far between the past few days. :)
I see this rumor was in fact truth, and Governor Tim Kaine endorsed Barack Obama for President at the JJ Dinner in Richmond on Saturday night. Obviously not surprised since this "leaked" a few days before the event even occurred. Nor can I say I'm surprised at Tim Kaine referring to VA as a 2008 toss-up state:
While officially endorsing U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's bid for the White House today, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine declared Virginia a "toss-up state" for the 2008 presidential election.Seriously, I think this is something many of us Democrats have assumed ever since (and some of us even before) Senator Jim Webb (D) beat incumbent George 'Macacawitz' Allen (R) back in November.Speaking in front of the Executive Mansion with Obama, D-Ill., and their wives, Kaine said his election and that of fellow Democrats U.S. Sen. Jim Webb and former Gov. Mark R. Warner shows that Virginia is a presidential player.
Kaine cited recent visits of Republican hopefuls U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former New York City mayor Rudolph Guiliani, as well as the Illinois senator, who came to Richmond to address last night a sold-out annual Democratic fundraiser.
So "long story short," both 2007 (with state elections), and 2008 are shaping up to be a very interesting years for the Commonwealth.
