Former Gore advisor dropping hints regarding 2008 Presidential bid?

According to Morning Call, Donna Brazile, a former campaign manager for Gore, implied the possibility that Al Gore will be running for President in 2008 while speaking at Moravian College on Tuesday.

"Wait till Oscar night," Brazile told an audience of about 100 people at Haupert Student Union. "I tell people: 'I'm dating. I haven't fallen in love yet.' On Oscar night, if Al Gore has slimmed down 25 or 30 pounds, Lord knows."

"An Inconvenient Truth," a film built around Gore's presentation on the effects of global warming, is one of the Oscar nominees for best documentary feature. A red carpet turn for the former vice president could make him as much a pop culture star as former first lady Clinton or Obama, whom Moravian College Democrats President Maria Smith compared to John F. Kennedy in terms of charisma.

Brazile went on to say:

"I believe [Gore] is ready for this moment," Brazile said in an interview after her speech. "He is a good leader. I think he can be one of the few leaders who can bring this country together."

She acknowledged it will be a tough decision for Gore, noting Kerry's announcement last week to bow out of the race. Gore believes he is now doing his life's work, Brazile said. However, she conceded that Gore might be able to do more about global climate change from inside the Oval Office. He has already made an impact by forcing President Bush to talk about the issue, she said.

Regardless of whether her former boss gets involved, Brazile said she is very excited about the 2008 presidential race. She declared it was the first time since 1952 that the race did not feature an "heir apparent."

So, if Gore ran, would YOU support him? Or do you plan to support one of the other candidates?

I think that Al Gore is the only candidate out there whom our allies would trust and respect, which would give him good leverage for getting other nations, especially Middle Eastern nations like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, U.A.E., etc., involved in funding and/or fighting the Iraq conflict. Perhaps the later countries help fund a broader European/Nato effort.
He would also fast track us toward energy independence which not only would increase our geo-political power (for instance we could sanction countries like Iran and Venezuela if we no longer needed their oil) but also would likely stimulate the economy. Conservative estimates indicate that transitioning to alternative sources of energy could add 1 trillion dollars annually to the economy (all sorts of new companies with different and innovative power generation schemes would emerge as well as the current Green/Alternative energy companies thriving) mainly since, if we become energy independant due to alternative sources of energy, our energy dollars will stay in the United States rather than much of the money going overseas to countries who support terrorism.
In addition to restoring respect to America, making us richer, stronger and geo-politically more potent, I beleive that Al Gore would protect us from terrorism better than any other candidate currently running for the Presidency. I believe this to be true since:
A. Our economy would be excellent, so we would have more funds to implement all the recommendations of the 9/11 commission, something Al Gore has said that he wants done now.
B. He would place the financial burden of Iraq (and possibly military) onto other countries, thus leaving us more money and resources to fight the war on terror elsewhere and finally capture Bin Laden.
C. He would strengthen certain key aspects of homeland security, i.e. scan cargo ships, more security at ports and borders.
D. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, once Al Gore makes it through the first couple of years with no serious attack, the world may just begin to love America again, the way, yes, it used to less than a decade ago. Granted Islamic extremists were out to get us even then, but if American politics changes back to one of a government representing a just and benevolent nation, these terrorists will be limited to just that..."Extremists," sick people who we can deal with, locate, track, and eliminate if necessary, as opposed to an ever growing, ever more incensed count of terrorists, currently multiplying faster than we can eliminate them.

God speed Al Gore
