International scientists blame humans for global warming
Despite attempts by right-wing groups to blame global warming on "natural" evolving of the planet, or "cycles," and despite an attempt by the Bush administration to pay off scientists, an international group of scientist says global warming is man-made, and will continue.
The panel said earlier today that the pattern may continue for centuries DESPITE human efforts to stop pollution. They also blamed humans for stronger and more deadly heat waves, strong droughts, and devastating storms.
The report said that evidence of warming is "unequivocal" and temperatures on Earth could rise anywhere from 3.2 to 7.1 degrees by 2100.
According to an article on CNN online:
The report found it was "likely" -- "more likely than not" in some cases -- that man-made greenhouse gases have contributed to hotter days and nights, and more of them, more killer heat waves than before, heavier rainfall more often, major droughts in more regions, stronger and more frequent cyclones and "increased incidence" of extremely high sea levels. The report noted that 11 of the last 12 years have ranked among the 12 warmest years on record with the oceans absorbing more than 80 percent of the heat added to the climate system. Add in the melt-off of glaciers and sea ice and sea levels are rising.
At Barbara Boxer's Senate hearing, her predecessor as chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, Senator James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), who once called global warming a hoax, blamed THE WEATHER CHANNEL for "scaring" folks:
There is "no convincing scientific evidence" that human activity is causing global warming, declared Inhofe, who once called global warming a hoax. "We all know the Weather Channel would like to have people afraid all the time."
Oh really? First it was a "hoax" now we blame The Weather Channel. How ignorant.
While the Bush administration has rejected the Kyoto treaty (which would cut greenhouse emissions), U.S. greenhouse gas emissions have gone up 16 percent, since 1990. Swell!
So, I'm still standing by waiting for someone to tell me how the hell someone would benefit from "making up" global warming.
