Military more afraid of gays than terrorists

Today's quote of the day on Salon is hilarious and I (for the second day in a row) couldn't resist sharing it with you all. New York Democratic Representative Gary Ackerman was today's recipient of the award, when he went after Condoleeza Rice and the arcane "Don't ask don't tell" policy the army operates under.

New York Democratic Rep. Gary Ackerman, arguing that if Condoleezza Rice wants to complain about the lack of foreign-language speakers available for Iraq, perhaps the administration ought to do something about the dozens of linguists who have been fired under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell": "For some reason, the military seems more afraid of gay people than they are [of] terrorists, but they're very brave with the terrorists ... If the terrorists ever got a hold of this information, they'd get a platoon of lesbians to chase us out of Baghdad."

Ackerman also made fun of the Defense Department the other day warning of a terrorist 'platoon of Lesbians'.

During a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the State Department budget, Ackerman told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice he was "intrigued" that she spent so much time in her testimony talking about "the foreign language deficit" and how much the government needs Farsi and Arabic speakers.

Then the conversation turned to the military's policy on gays.

"It seems that the Defense Department has a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy when it comes to homosexuals. You don't have such a prohibition in your agency, do you?" Ackerman asked.

If the rumors about Condi Rice being a lesbian are indeed true, she certainly is one self-loathing man hater.
