Virginia police eliminating police "codes"

The Virginia state police are eliminating their "code speak" and switching to plain English. According to an AP article:

Among the codes that have been shelved in favor of their English translation are the mundane 10-23 (arrived at the scene), the blood-pumping 10-47 (chase in progress) and the grim 10-82 (dead body).

The Dept. of Homeland Security is pressing law enforcement agencies to improve their communications to allow for better response to emergencies. Well, it's ABOUT TIME someone started to listen. We all remember what a problem NY authorities had with this during the September 11, 2001 attacks. Hopefully the implementation will prevent any miscommunications (or at least cut down on them) between law enforcement in VA.
