AS PROMISED: More proof that racism, and bigotry is perfectly acceptable in the Republican Party

Yesterday I promised details would be forthcoming regarding a staffer for a Republican Congressman from Ohio holding racists beliefs. So here we go, last week while browsing Craigslist ads for apartment listings in the Washington, DC metro area, I received the following email (click the image to enlarge if the font appears too small to read in your browser window):

I scanned the email rather hastily, since I was about to head out the door, and sent a reply saying that I would be interested. I responded using the email address I setup for my old blog, which contains the name for my (old) blog in it (ie: "myname"@capitoltalk.com).

After two days I still hadn't received a response, so I began to get a little suspicious -- mainly that this was perhaps a Republican staffer who, upon receiving my reply, visited my old blog, and realized I was a Democrat, thus he (may have been) no longer interested in rooming together.

This "suspicion" grew even more when I checked my old blog's visitor log for the past week, and noticed I had received several hits from the domain name "senate.gov." I then went back to reread the email and noticed the sender had specified he preferred a white roommate. After that, I began to get really curious as to who this might be, so (with some assistance) I did a little "investigating." Turns out this Mr. James Molina is the Legislative Correspondent for Representative Mike Turner (R-OH), who represents the third district in Ohio.

So I'm just curious, since there's absolutely no reason that Mr. Molina would only be interested in white roommates other than being a bigot, does his employer Representative Mike Turner from Ohio also condone racism? Given his voting record, it wouldn't surprise me.

UPDATE: Buckeye State Blog is now covering as well.

While it's not illegal to impose your roomate preferences on a renter when you will share the living space, it is illegal for an ad space to include it in the advertising. Craig's List has violated the Equal Housing law.

This was not POSTED on Craigslist, it was an email response I received to one of MY ads on craigslist.

Oops, sorry. So he's "just a racist," not an illegal racist.

My best roomate from every angle was from Africa. She exposed me to her culture, food, wonderful family, and her many friends from all over the continent. Too bad he's so afraid of people different then he is. The most important thing you learn is how much we're all the same.

Exactly, I wasn't trying to suggest he was doing something illegal (because frankly I'm not quite sure what VA housing laws say regarding this matter), I was just trying to bring this to people's attention.

When I first responded to the email I missed the whole "white male" thing, but noticed he said he worked on the Hill.

I figured he had to be a Dem. staffer because my ad clearly said "I'm a gay male so if you're still living in a 1934 mindset, and this is going to be a problem for you, we probably will not mesh well." I didn't figure out he was a Republican until I went back and read the email picking up on the "white male" part, and noticing I had gotten hits from "senate.gov" -- then I looked up who he was.

Only five rooms/units or more are covered by anti-discrimination laws, as I recall from when I was a real estate agent.

But shhhh, don't quote me.

I wasn't really concerned about the legality of it -- I just think it's funny (and sad, at the same time) that we still have people who do stuff like that.

It's HILARIOUS though that this guy was so stupid to TELL me he worked on Capitol Hill, and then include his NAME in the email.

He wants a man to share a very small one room apartment? He could be racist... or maybe he is gay and finds white men more attractive.
