Bill Richardson drops out

Nothing really surprising about this. I knew it was coming any hour/day now the minute I saw on CNN this afternoon that Richardson was reportedly going to be "taking some time off to go back to his day job and reassess the situation" (whatever that means). Regardless, Richardson is out and the field is essentially down to Clinton, Obama, and Edwards. Kucinich still remains but, while I like him, he really never had a chance.

UPDATE: Richardson will officially announce the decision tomorrow.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson ended his campaign for the presidency Wednesday after twin fourth-place finishes that showed his impressive credentials could not compete with his rivals' star power.

Richardson planned to announce the decision Thursday, according to two people close to the governor with knowledge of the decision. They spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the governor's announcement.

The Richardson campaign would not comment on the governor's decision, reached after a meeting with his top advisers Wednesday in New Mexico.

Bill Richardson: Liar for President!

Bill Richardson looked like a deer caught in headlights during the HRC/LOGO debates last night that focused on issues important to gay Americans, saying that he believed homosexuality was a choice, not something you are born with. Both Lowell and Vivian have detailed write-ups on the debate. The fact that Bill Richardson thinks homosexuality is a choice is one issue (although I would challenge "straight" Americans to ask themselves whether they could just become "gay" whenever they wanted), the fact that he LIES to try and cover up his mistake is another.

Via AmericaBlog:

UPDATE: Governor Richardson called me to discuss his comments that homosexuality is a choice. I was writing as fast as I could to get quotes close to verbatim. You can draw your own conclusions about them.

He says that was confused by the question, saying that it was tricky and it threw him off that it was asked in the context of biology and science. He said "I knew when I was walking out of the parking lot that I had said something in error. My staff alerted me that I needed to set the record straight."

Oh hey there Bill, you're a liar, so please stfu. Let's leave the "oh I misunderstood the question" bullshit to the Republicans, or more specifically, Tommy Thompson, shall we?

Oh snap! Major dirt on Bill Richardson!!!!!!!

If this is all the "dirt" that Republicans can dig up to try and "smear" Democratic presidential nominee Bill Richardson, then the Republicans have got major problems come 2008.

Bill Richardson officially joins the race

Bill Richardson became the 322nd 333rd candidate to officially enter the 2008 Presidential race today.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson vowed to repair the "ravages" of the Bush administration Monday as he formally announced his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The former congressman and Cabinet secretary said his track record makes him the right person to lead the country through a pivotal time. He played up his experience to set him apart in the field with some more famous and better-funded rivals.

"Some are rock stars," said Richardson, who represented New Mexico in Congress and served as President Clinton's energy secretary and ambassador to the United Nations. "I am not, but I have a proven record.

Richardson also wants you to know that he is indeed, half Mexican. How much faith does the media have in Richardson's chances at actually winning? Well, as of 1:45pm this afternoon, MSNBC is covering some stupid car chase in LA, Fox News is reporting on a "missing mom" (go figure), and CNN is discussing gas prices. I've seen no mention of Richardson on any of the three aforementioned networks all afternoon.

...and just for fun:
