Kate Obenshain Griffin resigns as Republican Party of Virginia Chair!

I knew Virginia Republicans had been very outspoken against her lately, following their defeat last year in the gubernatorial election, and then this year in the Senate election, but I didn't actually expect her to resign, at least not so soon after the elections.

"Bearing Drift" has her letter up here!

Her resignation will be effective "at the close of business on Wednesday, November 15, 2006" according to the letter. She also says that George Allen has asked her to serve as his Chief of Staff for the remainder of his term.

UPDATE: NLS reports 1st District Chair Russ Moulton is the early front runner for the new Chair position at the RPV.

UPDATE #2: The RTD has an article up, claiming "Republican sources" tell them Ed Gillespie will most likely be the new RPV Chair:

Republican sources say Allen is pushing for Ed Gillespie, who lives in Fairfax County and is a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, to be chairman of the state party. Gillespie was an adviser to the Allen campaign.
